The inspiration for our name Burley Oak Brewing Company was derived from the name of the town, our traditional brewing methods and the history of our brew house.
The town of Berlin had its start around the 1790s, part of the Burley Plantation, a 300-acre (1.2 km2) land grant dating back to 1677. The name Berlin is believed to be derived from a contraction of "Burleigh Inn", a tavern located at the crossroads of the Philadelphia Post Road (now South Main Street) and Sinepuxent Road (Tripoli Street).
It just so happens, that our building was originally a Cooperage - making oak barrels to fill with local produce and seafood to ship off to Baltimore in the early 1900's. And we are bringing barrels back to the building, aiding us in the aging of our hand-crafted ales.

It’s been many years since we were in the Ocean City area and able to visit Burley Oak prior to this past Saturday. We arrived in the early afternoon and were promptly greeted as we had seats at the bar. Bill & Lauren took great care of us and we enjoyed a nice variety of great beer. Their Coffee N Cream ale was the highlight of my visit, my wife enjoyed their Tiramisu stout mixed with the Coffee N Cream ale. Everything we had was wonderful, they offer a lot of prepackaged beer to go as well as crowlers & growlers for what’s on tap. Hopefully we get back to Burley Oak again before too much time passes by again!

Really cool spared for some good food and beer. The seller is nice and intimate and they have live music every Friday, which was awesome. The bartender is also great and super friendly!

The staff was friendly and really took care of us. The beer was okay. I had the Lost and the Pineapple/Mango JREAM. I thought they Lost was good but enjoyed the JREAM more. The experience was a little confusing as there is a distillery and a bar with a common outdoor area but there are no clear signs of where to go in that outdoor area my wife and I found ourselves wandering around trying to figure out what was going on. Then when we went to leave the way we came in was now closed so we had to look around again to find the exit which was through the distillery. Not a bad experience just confusing.
